Discussion about
I need drapes for a new weekend house. We bought most of our apartment drapes at the Silk Trading Company, but the selection of ready-made drapes at the new iteration of that store ("Wolf Home") is poor. Any other suggestions for off the rack, lined quality drapes (i.e., we need to sleep and waiting 6 weeks for drapes to be made is not an option). Thanks.

I loved Silk Trading - was sad to see them pull out of ABC. I heard from someone else the new version of their store isn't as good with selection. Loved their silk pillows!

Yes, Ali, we went to RH, and are using their drapes for one or two rooms, and they happen to be 20% off. Trying to find some other options, particularly wider panels for some large walls of windows. Thanks.

Crate & Barrel, West Elm, Pottery Barn, Room & Board. Maybe you've already looked there.

But here's a suggestion in case you find something you like that just isn't wide enough. We wanted voluminous linen drapes for our bedroom without paying for custom. We bought double the amount of panels from Restoration Hardware and had our local tailor (the woman at our dry cleaner's) stitch them together and re-hem to fit our windows. We hung them first and from here I pinned them where I wanted them combined and hemmed (just grazing the floor, not puddling because linen relaxes on its own). The sewing cost $26 each and they turned out as if they were custom. Ours happened to be unlined but you could do the same with lined panels, although the cost would probably be higher to do the sewing due to the extra labor for the lining.

By the way, I agree with you about the drapes, and also the by-the-yard fabrics at Wolf Home. A real disappointment after Silk Trading.

Well no one can beat that price but if you are looking for custom you can try Horizon Window Treatments on 24th Street in Chelsea. (horizonyc.com)
