Okay, I asked for it -- I bought a new-construction condo with horrible P-TAK units for heat/air. They roar like a train, leak cold air in the winter, and are generally useless and ugly.
I have a small Daikin split unit in my kitchen which is divine - the works sit out on the terrace. But very expensive and hangs high on the wall, where we have these honkin' big PTAKs in every other room. Suggestions please?

Multi-split; ceiling cassettes
Pay slightly more for highest possible SEER. Change/clean filters with crazy frequency.
Alan has it. It always makes me nervous when I see these P-Taks in otherwise beautiful condos...
Hi Lofty!
what's a p-tak? those thru-the-wall a/c & heat units that sit underneath your window? Do they still make new construction with those???
Packaged Terminal Air Conditioners. Yes, new condos and old motels.
Exactly -- that big metal vibrating box under the window in a motel - with uncontrollable heat/ac and weirdly-labeled buttons that don't do anything.
But what about the boxes? Take them out and plaster up the hole??? Use them for pigeon cages?
