I heard Ben is selling for a loss because they never could get that 'Nova" smell out of the apartment...Think Kosher Bordello.

Looks like Roger De Bris' apartment in The Producers (original) - "white, white, white"....

Jerry and Anne live on the corner of West 84 and riverside (se corner).

Totally dig the media room

Yep--that media room is insane! I'm not a huge fan of the apartment's ultra-mod decor but what an incredible space. Really to die for.

it's also a little strange that the place goes on the market for less than the last sale esp. considering the reno. Wonder what the back story is?

Probably just a rumor, but I heard they're furious about Tavern on the Green reopening and are refusing to stay in the neighborhood.

They were pretty mad about H&H closing, come to think of it.

He's done well since his Bromley days.

When it came down to choose between the high maintenance costs and his tab at Russ and Daughters, well you know how that went...

h&h closed because the store didn't pay taxes while stealing from its workers. The owners probably made out with lots of money in this scam..

According to authorities, Toro took deductions from his employees’ paychecks but failed to pay sales and other taxes. He also manipulated the unemployment-insurance tax system, using shell companies to transfer employees from one business to another in order to receive a lower rate. H & H filed city and state withholding tax returns under six different company names, according to authorities

I heard they didn't use real "everything" on their everything bagels

Anne and Jerry also live(d) in 118, #5AB. Ben's profile in the New Yorker the other week mentioned his buying there because of that.

You can't have everything. Where would you put it?

Rumor has it he had a knock-down fight with Jerry Seinfeld at Barney Greengrass a few weeks ago -- something about a slice of nova, but I didn't catch the details.

Funny stuff, The reason he is moving is he likes the village better. He never thought the place was "for him" at least thats what I am told

Even funnier, given that he grew up in that building.

I grew up on long island doesnt mean I dont like Manhattan more

I just ran by 110-118. I think he will get more than ask if the place lives up to the online pictures. I don't like the street aspect of 110-118. Despite the warm brick, looks uninteresting, monolithic from the park.

The apt layouts are superb, I'm a big fan of their double living rooms & Classic 6es (so is Krugman).

But, but, but - it's a singularly unimpressive full-block building.

CC: Can we recast that question? If I HAD to spend 10 bucks on a RSD apt, then neither. But between the 2, then 110 - but only because 103 has a terrible unfixable layout and no real outdoor space. I would choose an 18+ footer on the south side of 77 or north side of 76 between RSD and WEA above 110.

>I grew up on long island doesnt mean I dont like Manhattan more

Yeah, but I'm guessing that four years ago you didn't spend $10m to move your wife and kids 3000 miles to live in your childhood home.

You would guess right but i do know some people who spent more then 10% of their career earnings and 1/3 of their yearly earnings to buy a home and then sell it soon after. 10 Million is obviously a lot of money to almost everyone but when your worth over 100 million its really not that big of a deal

True -- especially when you have, like, three other homes ... and call always stay at mom & dad's on 84th street, anyway.

So, they bought in 2008, renovated it, are taking a loss at the *asking* price and we haven't even talked about transaction costs.

Who was it saying prices are up again?

And another one for the rent/buy calculation...

West 67th,

When did I say all people or most people. It is a fact that Ben Stiller has made over 100million in his career so taking a 400, 000 loss is not a big deal. Is any of that not a fact?

I didn't say anything about how much someone should or should not have to buy an apartment.

Columbia,

I did not say it was a good deal. My point is if a person has made over 100 million it really isn't a big deal. if it was he would just stay there. He is not selling because he has to

"$25 K per month on top of monthlies of 7K. hell of a deal."

Remember, buying is *always* cheaper than renting.
