This is a common scam in NY. They are hoping to lure in out-of-towners from Iowa with a bait-and-switch ad. If someone calls, they say that apartment is taken, but they have others. Then they take them to rental buildings without exclusive brokers, and charge them a fee. Streeteasy is full of brokers with phantom apartment listings, usually unpriced listings, just waiting for a sucker.

In the NYTimes sales listings there are also a ton of fake sales listings.

Should be "underpriced" listings.

The 300 block of East 66th doesn't even go that high. They could at least have chosen an address that isn't shown to be fake with the most casual glance at a map. Do they have some apartments on East 288th Street for us to look at?

do we know each other?

actually, when your name is on a sign on the side of the building (or in more discreet cases my card is handed to you by an obliging doorman) such tactics aren't needed.

Trip: That idea of stating Building addresses that don't exist, started for those addresses that are mentioned on television shows.
truthsker would be the expert on that topic. He's the T.V. show specialist.

Jimmyboy, do you like repeating yourself?

And yes, I'm sure you're very familiar with when and when not to use all such sleaze tactics.

"Trip: That idea of stating Building addresses that don't exist, started for those addresses that are mentioned on television shows."

It's a great idea on TV, and 365 East 66th would be a fine address for an imaginary apartment on a TV show; it looks and feels real (unlike that street in the 300s used in "The Royal Tenenbaums", which was so obviously bogis that it broke immersion).

But when you're on a computer, with Google Maps literally seconds away, you're going to find out that either the apartment is a fake or the broker is putting one over on you, and instantly lose trust in the broker. The least they could do would be to use a fake apartment number in a real building, or a building number that comes between two existing ones, or something else that won't be revealed so quickly.

Trip: How true.
Google Maps makes it easy. (Most t.v. show building addresses would be located in the East River.)

I think it's just that Miron Properties is none too bright. Here's their latest: http://streeteasy.com/nyc/sale/851821-condo-740-park-ave-lenox-hill-new-york

An ad for some new condo that they've flagged as being in the 740 Park co-op.

The question should really be why does streeteasy allow schlocky scummy brokerage firms like Miron to market false listings on their website?

Here is another one for a $3.5MM West Village apt that does not exist. http://streeteasy.com/nyc/sale/830322-condo-166-perry-st-west-village-new-york

Hey, if its working with less expensive ones, might as well try to step it up.... I wonder what kind of out of town buyers broker clients they get with this disgraceful tactic

Can this broker be reported to SE for falsifying listings? I must admit that it takes BALLS to put up a fake $16.5 million dollar listing, so this guy is either a total moron, a total crook, or both. Bottom line is that if you are attempting to move anything more than a $1000 per month walk up (and even that!) you better get the ADDRESS information straight....

STREETEASY is totally complicit in these scams by tacitly allowing these postings to go up. For money of course.

When I have reported buildings (by clicking the "Problem" button) that were false, had wrong info like price or picture, someone from SE has always emailed back to say thanks and that they were removing the listing.

MAV gets the point.
It's being geared to out of town buyers because they watched American t.v. shows in which the on-air occupants' addresses don't actually exist.
