Discussion about
In case Discussion just vanishes one day. And people seem to be bailing out now anyway. I'll start - it's been fun. Special thx to those select posters who added consistent value - kylewest, NWT, West81, UD, Ali, 30 Years (way back when), etc etc. You know who you are. :) (I may migrate to UD's site for occasional interaction, and to keep the landlease list alive. ha)
[sigh]
Good-bye everybody. Thanks for the amazing education in real estate. I hope I contributed info to others, I believe I did, (I have used 2 aliases on this discussion board).
Special thanks to attorneys, deep pocket real estate investors, the real estate junkies and agents/brokers with many years of experience who gave so freely of their expertise and opinion.
Thanks to the Newbies (there have been so many) who asked newbie questions that led to wonderful discussions.
Additional special thanks to the witty ones who made me laugh. Us laugh.
Discussion boards add a tremendous value to building listings on this site. When looking at apartments I always look at the building summary to see related discussions. Often this is how you find out you are looking at a land lease building, for example.
Clearly the new owners don't mind dumping value off the table, but this would be a big one. Usually message boards drive revenue by ad impressions of the many pages refreshed. Perhaps this stream would save the board if nothing else.
West34, please don't leave. Think of what is upcoming in just the next month that you'll miss if you go:
A new thread on tipping, e.g. how much should you tip your doorman for the holidays? What if you are only a partial year resident? This thread will be well attended by NYCMatt, and kylewest will explain how he tips in cash $75 to certain people in his building by giving 4 $20s and asking for $5 back
Some moron wants to list during Thanksgiving and has a thread, e.g.: http://streeteasy.com/nyc/talk/discussion/36950-real-estate-market-during-holidays
A new thread asking if brokers will sell for a 4% commission but still provide full service.
A new thread on Bill de Blasio and his plans for increasing crime and increasing taxes.
Someone's recently been cheated by a rental broker and wants to know what to do.
What will happen to the stock price of Twitter?
What is the direction of inflation? How will it impact anything from the price of cream cheese to the cost of raw milk from cows in C0lumbia C0unty?
A new thread about lawsuits and how SE readers might benefit even if they weren't harmed.
A discussion of the 2014 Congressional elections including the impact of the Tea Party.
Someone wants to remove the mirrors from the ceiling of his bedroom and needs a quote.
Should you buy Apple? How much will it underperform other stocks?
A poster is considering moving to Williamsburg, but still wants to be taken seriously - possible?
How will the ACA affect healthcare, and does that have any impact on NYC RE?
If a poster wants to put only 10% down on a condo but gets rejected by a major bank, is that an indication that the borrower is sub-prime?
Will the second avenue subway go to the new garbage transfer station?
I'm moving from Texas and I have 4 100lb pitbulls, does anyone have any building recommendations? No fee only.
Any recommended moving companies that have not been covered in the prior threads? My stuff is special.
Land lease, if the landowner terminates the lease early, can the building stay in Manhattan?
and:
FLMAOZ and other important SE abbreviations for the newcomer to Discussions fka Talk.
and more.
So don't leave us, or you'll miss out.
fieldchester/whomever: That may be your very best post, ever.
I'm fieldschester.
Fieldchester is brilliant. And now my grubby little hands do have to get to billing hours.
nice fieldchester. why have you been holding back the funny all this time?
It's "fieldschester". Don't hold back the "s". He's always been funny.
Are you leaving today, West34? You've been fun. Happy trails, ride safely.
Yes, it has been fun; thank you all. I have learned so much on this board; it's like a PHD in NYCRE. I don't know what Zillow has in mind but, again, I've never known what Zillow was all about. RIP StreetEasy.
“Sleep tight, ya morons!”
Can't sleep tight. Go crazies in the bedroom.
Damn. My final post of SE and a fking typo. 'Got'. Sheeeesh.
Either way,
fair winds and following seas, w67thstreet.
I hope another website pops up to replace what streeteasy was offering, but I'm not holding my breath it will happen since the original team was just so perfect and from what I understand are the only ones who have ever cracked the NYC real estate code and offered it to the masses.
As soon as the old site is taken down, I'm out of here. Not that zillow will care...
Re: As soon as the old site is taken down, I'm out of here.
I heard we are all meeting at west67th's house. He is baking Apple pies.
I saw that movie with the guy with the Apple pies. Figures that would be w67.
