Just go on airbnb. Lots of options. Be aware that you will have lots of room for negotiation for one month rental.

1/2 the stuff on airbnb is the same brokers you will encounter from other media- they just build their fee into the rate.

And there's always the infamous Craigslist. You need to be careful, but it's certainly worked for many people.

Airbnb has a lot of automated listings, and not super easy to find availabilities.

I found some brokers, but they require 1 month (!!) fee for a 1-3 month lease

CL is a trip..

yuck

Ive found brokers readily willing to drop to 1/2 month fee for a 2 mo rental.

I'm currently at 150 West 92nd Street. You can find it on Streeteasy - they are no fee furnished short term apartments. The one I rented (as of 4-1) is a 2/1 and I'll keep it for 3 months. If the upper west side can work for you, these are quite fine. It's just a few blocks from the #1/2/3 on Broadway (between Columbus & Amsterdam)

There is one I've had a good experience with in Chelsea but they are pretty much booked far in advance. Again - another no fee short term furnished. It is Chelsmore Apts. 205 W. 15th St, corner of 7th avenue. 212-924-7991. I didn't have much lead time - they were booked when I called for an April 1st apt. You might have better luck for May.

Tungsten, I have not used Abnb, but have had several friends visiting NYC use and they all had very positive experiences, but sounds like it does take a bit of time...

I didn't look at Abnb, fearing the recent crack-down on illegal places to stay & not wanting the inconvenience of having to pack up & leave.

had one friend use airbnb and had a bad experience, but theyve been around a while and seem to get decent reviews.

I received a postcard from onefinestay.com soliciting my apt. good photography for the apts but I have no experience with them.

Actually, if the OP is still looking, it could mean that he's taking his time to find something good, and isn't being pressured. Having a broker is good when you need help, and quickly, so you have more eyes looking in different places. This guy seems smart -- not wasting money on a do-nothing agent, and listening to his own instincts.

the clear indication that you are a useless person. you place no value on your time, and can't imagine anyone else's being worth more than their money.
