Europe is a big country. The country the women are from, is that Sweden, or Greece? Are you Scottish, or Lithuanian?
I think you see where I'm going with this - hard to answer your questions until we have more facts.
Also, what neighborhood is this in?

FC - My nemesis has upped the stakes and my husband is now reading all the printouts of the discussions at issue and laughing out loud at your posts. Prior to this week, regarding every voicemail/nuisance letter my husband had received from my nemesis in the past, my husband would forward to me something like "remind me who this is again? do you need me to get involved?" He is now getting involved. Pull up a chair.

The original posts sounds like a joke from here. Even condos often do not allow non-occupant owners to sit on the board, and what you're describing otherwise sounds co-op-ish. If this isn't a joke, I don't think you have anything to worry about if anyone else is also running for the board seat you want (for some reason).

You can't just keep your tenants' security deposit because they threw a loud party, or even a couple of them. If you get fined you could probably deduct that from their security. The board can fine you for their failure to follow the house rules. If the situation were very severe (ruined hallways) things could escalate, but even then it's not an easy road. So the worst I think you have to worry about is being fined.

Right, doesn't add up. But first we need to know what neighborhood this is in.

I'm confused. How does your board allow sublet of your unit without first approving the subtenants? And a two-month sublet also sounds unusual (in my building this would be considered 'hoteling' and would not be permitted).

Unfortunately as a prospective board member (politics and 'sabotage' attempts aside) you don't exactly come across as someone who cares about the well-bring of the building if you felt it appropriate to install two completely unknown subtenants in your apartment only two days before leaving for two months overseas. I certainly would not consider you a good candidate on this alone. Also, if you routinely have long stints abroad that is also a potential strike against you--board members are expected to be available to meet monthly, and ideally are full-time residents of the building.

I don't think you need to be concerned about outside sabotage here--seems like you've done a good job of sabotaging yourself.

Anonymous2013 - Very few, if any, attorneys will provide legal advice in a forum such as this for a host of reasons. Accordingly, if you want sound legal advice, you need to consult a qualified attorney. With that said, Flutistic and bramstar both make good points - your building and situation both sound unusual.

Well, given that the original post has disappeared, this thread is now truly nonsensical. Accordingly, I feel less guilty about my first contribution to it being a completely off-topic aside/nonsequitur to fieldschester. Not that anyone cares, but since this is now a completely nonsensical thread, I will add this follow-up to my first off-topic post: It has been brought to my attention that I might have misused "nemesis" in my earlier post; apparently one can argue that I am the one who is the nemesis to the other in the situation to which I refer, rather than he the nemesis to me. Not important at all, but I know there are some on here who are sticklers for proper vocabulary, grammar, etc. In any event, the situation to which I refer has devolved into the comical, so I will say no more about it. If nothing else, my hope is that HWNCNBM has taken away from this encounter that one should not mistake kindness for weakness and that treating people honestly, fairly and professionally is the best business plan.

Yeah, see, I didn't make the assumption that this was unusual at all. I had no basis to give advice. I asked for the neighborhood - my proxy question for knowing the full lay of the land: not only the facts but the circumstances and how the environment (i.e. neighborhood) plays.

FC - If Streeteasy removed the post for whatever reason, why would you put it back up? Are you affirmatively trying to get greyed?
