A new affordable housing lottery is opening in Yorkville, offering 28 units with rents starting at $1,018. The project is the first all-affordable residential development constructed by Extell, and will offer major discounts compared to market-rate apartments in the area. The median asking rent across the Upper East Side is $3,000.
The lottery is accepting applications from individuals and families earning 70 and 80 percent of the area median income. That translates to between $36,858 and $96,800 in annual earnings. Units will range in price from $1,018 for a studio to $1,740 for a 3-bedroom. See the chart below for details.
Located at 1766-1768 Second Ave., the project spans two buildings near the intersection of Second Avenue and East 92nd Street. One building will rise 11 stories, and the other will rise six. Each building will offer roof decks, laundry rooms and bike rooms. The site sits in the heart of Yorkville, close to the N and Q trains at 96th Street, as well as Carl Schurz Park.
