Hallelujah for this affordable housing lottery in Bushwick that is offering 30 newly constructed units in the renovated St. Mark’s Lutheran Church at 618 Bushwick Ave., (aka 626 Bushwick Ave.).
While we rejoice at the unique nature of this conversion of an 1890’s brick church and school, we also warn that those thinking a housing lottery means a huge savings will see the lottery prices are not so far off the market-rate prices. For example, studios in the lottery will start at $2,013 a month (compared to this market-rate studio renting for $2,150 and lottery 1-bedrooms go for $1,997 a month as compared to this market-rate 1-bedroom for $2,350.
But still, these are unique apartments with different layouts due to the abstract layout of the church and school. Below is a chart outlining the pricing details.
The lottery is open to those making 130 percent of the area median income with salaries ranging from $69,018 to $135,590 a year.
