Where? Two Bridges, as the name suggests, is tucked between two of NYC’s most iconic bridges. This neighborhood, which stretches from the Brooklyn Bridge to the Manhattan Bridge, is about as “downtown” as it gets. It’s like a meeting point between the Lower East Side, Little Italy, Chinatown, and the Financial District. Our Rental of the Week is a downtown loft that’s the perfect home base for enjoying all these areas. (Especially now that NYC is reopening so quickly.) Plus it’s got in-unit laundry!

Address: 21 Catherine St. #5C

Price: $2,350

Size: 2-bedroom

Neighborhood: Two Bridges

Best feature: This downtown loft has the industrial-chic hallmarks that loft lovers dream of. Super-high ceilings show off wooden support beams. There’s tons of exposed brick. And that gigantic, wood-framed skylight that crowns the living room? Swoon!

But our Rental of the Week also has modern touches for convenience. The kitchen has stainless steel appliances, including a dishwasher. The bathroom is bright, sleek, and nicely tiled. And there’s even one of the city’s most coveted amenities: an in-unit washer/dryer.

Finally, an affordable 2-bedroom in downtown Manhattan is kind of like a unicorn. This one has style to spare, and it puts you close to so much of lower Manhattan’s food, shopping, and nightlife. (Extra bonus for soup dumpling fans: It’s only a few blocks from the famous Joe’s Shanghai. Yum!)

Why it’s a deal: Two Bridges is a submarket of the Lower East Side. The area’s median asking rent is $2,722, according to StreetEasy’s Data Dashboard. That puts our Rental of the Week more than $370 per month below average for this buzzy area. And with 2 bedrooms, you can share with a roommate for even more savings. Split in half, the $2,350 rent comes to less than $1,200 per month each.

Biggest drawback: This downtown loft is a walkup, unfortunately. In addition, there’s no floor plan on the listing, so it’s hard to tell exactly how it’s laid out. For example, the main bedroom looks spacious, but the second one seems to be much smaller. And the washer/dryer is not pictured, so it’s unclear where in the apartment it is. Regardless, this unique space is a great deal in a great location, especially if you’re a fan of loft living. (Or soup dumplings!)
