Session 1: The Basics of Home-Buying in NYC
In our first event, StreetEasy economist Nancy Wu gave an overview of the current NYC housing market. She also offered helpful instructions for using StreetEasy data to make informed shopping decisions. Next, StreetEasy product manager Peter Lim explained the StreetEasy tools and features we created to make your home search more efficient.
Afterward, Compass agent and certified StreetEasy ExpertScott Savory joined to discuss how he helps New Yorkers go from dreaming about a home to successfully closing on one. He focused on three key stages every hopeful homeowner needs to navigate — and the industry pros you want to have in your corner for each.
As a reminder: StreetEasy can help you discover and contact buyer’s agents, like Scott, through the StreetEasy Experts program. These agents and teams have verified experience in the buildings and neighborhoods you’re searching. Simply launch a search with one or more neighborhood filters, scroll to the bottom, and click “Match With Agent.” Or connect with an Expert or team right from a sales listing you’re interested in.

Our second webinar brought together two finance specialists to share best practices for a successful NYC home purchase. Tony Jao, a mortgage banker at Investors Bank, outlined do’s and don’ts on the road to preapproval for a mortgage.
From there, viewers learned the essentials of setting a home-buying budget from financial advisor Amy Salo CFP®, CAP®, CExP™.
