While many celebrities have no problem trading one New York City apartment for something bigger in a new building, Jessica Lange has taken a different view of expanding her NYC footprint. With her recent purchase of a 2-bedroom, 2-bathroom unit on the 10th floor of 1 Fifth Ave., the award-winning actress is apparently looking to expand the 9th floor apartment she’s owned since 2005.

A classic prewar co-op, 1 Fifth Ave. is in the heart of Greenwich Village, with killer views of Washington Square Park. It’s long been host to many celebrity owners, including Keith Richards.

Lange paid $3.3 million for the second unit, well below the list price of $3.995 million. The discount no doubt reflects the considerable work the place needs in addition to being combined with the apartment below it.

Lange could be looking to do what Marisa Tomei accomplished in her now for-sale Greenwich Village abode. Tomei combined two units to create a 2,265-square-foot apartment.

Or maybe Lange is looking for more room to host her adult kids, including her daughter Shura (father Mikhail Baryshnikov) and Hannah and Samuel (with father Sam Shepherd, who recently passed away.)
