Mets power pitcher and virtual Viking Noah Syndergaard (aka Thor) is just the latest celebrity athlete to take up residence in the Sky.
The revelation about Thor’s invasion of the Hell’s Kitchen luxury rental complex at 605 W. 42nd St. came via Syndergaard’s Instagram account, which set off a debate (in our minds, anyway), about which made a more compelling visual: The Hudson River views from Syndergaard’s new 2-bedroom corner unit, or Syndergaard himself posing in those custom-tailored suits. Goodness!
We could post more pictures of Sky and all its incredible amenities — including the NBA-star-approved basketball court (purportedly designed by ex-Knicks’ star Carmelo Anthony, and home to a pickup game started by LeBron James), plus the gigantic swimming pool — but maybe it’s better just to look at Insta-selfies of Syndergaard.
He’s the most recent big-name athlete to be lured into the huge, 71-story luxury rental complex. Its developers, the Moinian Group, smartly released a statement announcing that the Mets’ Opening Day starter was now a tenant. Said Senior Vice President Mitchell Moinian:
Sky is without a doubt the absolute best residence for a professional athlete in New York City. With extravagant, hotel-like amenities and ultra-luxe privacy, Sky provides a unique combination that remains unmatched. During development, we sought to create a tower with high-end offerings that would complement the busy schedules of our residents. Our continued appeal to celebrities and athletes is a reflection of that very notion.
Syndergaard is a rabid fan of his new digs, though there was no mention about any deal struck to lure him.
Between all of the amenities, the great concierge, and the amazing views of the city, Sky is an incredible place to call home. With the expansive world-class gym, complete with an organic café, I only have to leave the building for Mets games. I love it!
Syndergaard is only the latest in a long, long line of star athletes whose NYC housing choices have stirred the drink. And the whereabouts of the Mets always makes for a good news story.
Home to Alex Rodriguez and Carlos Beltran and the New York Rangers’ hockey players, the town that Joe Namath (first NYC apartment at 370 E. 76th St.) proved could be an oyster for big sports stars remains a hotbed of high-end athletic living.
