Prospect Park is the crowning gem of Brooklyn. It’s no wonder many neighborhoods that border it, like Park Slope and Prospect Heights, tend to fetch premium prices. You pay for the luxury of living near this huge, green oasis! But some park-adjacent neighborhoods fly a bit more under the radar. Our Rental of the Week is a big, bright Prospect Lefferts Gardens 2BR that puts you just a block from the park’s eastern edge. And it’s beautifully renovated too!

Address: 146 Fenimore St. #D2

Price: $2,295

Size: 2-bedroom

Neighborhood: Prospect Lefferts Gardens

Best feature: Ah, space to spread out. This Prospect Lefferts Gardens 2BR has big, comfortable rooms that don’t feel cramped. There’s more than enough room for furniture without having to sacrifice open space. Lots of big, bright windows create an even more airy feel — and bring in plenty of natural light to make those hardwoods gleam.

In addition, our Rental of the Week’s kitchen and bathroom are both windowed and very nicely renovated. The bath boasts spotless tile and a fancy rainfall shower head. And the chic kitchen has stainless steel appliances, stone countertops, and ample cabinet space. There’s even enough room for an eat-in breakfast nook! Both bedrooms are spacious — though one is bigger than the other — with nice sized closets.

The classic-brick prewar building offers updated laundry facilities and a charming shared backyard. But who needs a yard when you have all of Prospect Park practically at your doorstep! Also very nearby are multiple train lines and a slew of local restaurants.

Why it’s a deal: The median asking rent for a Prospect Lefferts Gardens 2BR is $2,300, according to StreetEasy’s Data Dashboard. That puts our Rental of the Week only slightly below average for the area. But its close proximity to the park gives it a big boost of added value, as do its modern, up-to-date renovations. (And if you choose to share with a roommate, your monthly rent drops to less than $1,200!)

Biggest drawback: Unfortunately, this building has no elevator. It’s unclear what floor this Prospect Lefferts Garden 2BR is on, but the building is only four floors total, so there shouldn’t be too many stairs. In addition, it’s curious that the kitchen renovation, which is so modern otherwise, does not include a dishwasher. There’s certainly plenty of room for one. But regardless, this is a great apartment for a great price, right near one of Brooklyn’s greatest assets.
