Janet Shin

Combining a prestigious financial services background with a longtime passion for New York City real estate, Janet Shin offers her clientele a sterling work ethic and unparalleled empathy. Knowing from personal experience how overwhelming and time-consuming buying a home can be, Janet does the heavy lifting by culling relevant information from all she has seen, read and heard to identify the best option for each client.

Before Janet bought her first New York City apartment 15 years ago, she visited nearly 100 open houses. Unlike most people, she found the whole process so fun and exciting that she kept attending open houses and relished helping friends on their own real estate quests. Ultimately, she realized this is what she was meant to be doing. “Now I'm pursuing my true passion,” says Janet. Her former career at large global financial services firms allowed Janet to hone the analytic skills that give her an edge in real estate deal-making today. This accomplished business background, combined with her stellar organizational skills and persistent approach, makes her a true force to be reckoned with.

Janet was born in South Korea, grew up in New Jersey and attended Barnard College, majoring in economics and sociology, also studying at the London School of Economics. She currently lives in Union Square, a neighborhood she adores for its proximity to everything, a smorgasbord of “foodie”-friendly restaurants and architectural jewels, as well as the famed farmers market where she can regularly be seen browsing the fresh sugar snap peas and corn. She is a proud deacon at The First Presbyterian Church on Fifth Avenue and 12th Street and has volunteered with The New York Foundling Hospital and City Harvest, an organization that feeds the hungry in all five boroughs. While her love of food and travel has taken her to Europe, Asia, the Pacific and the Caribbean, “I truly love New York City,” says Janet, “and there’s no place I would rather call home. I am honored to help so many other people make their own homes here.”
