THE RESIDENCE
Today the fa ade of this approximately 3,100 square foot townhouse retains the history and elegance for which it has been awarded while the interior is an opportunity to create a thoroughly modern residence located steps off Park Avenue.

All five levels of the 20’ by 25’ open footprint provide several possibilities for exceptional living space with a fifth floor solarium and roof terrace providing great views of the Empire State Building. PLEASE NOTE: There are unused air rights which may permit creating additional floors. Architect plans for a single-family configuration are also upon request. This townhouse is built 20′ × 25′ on a 25’ deep lot. While there is no rear garden, there is a wonderful row of windows along the rear fa ade which allow for tremendous light to pass through the entire residence.

THE BLOCK
Originally built in 1868-69 by developer A. B. Embury and architects David and John Jardine of Jardine, Hill and Murdock who most notably designed the Fifth Avenue Baptist Church, as one in a row of five similar Second Empire-style brownstone dwellings from 128 to 136 East 38th Street. David Jardine lived in 136 East 38th Street for over fifteen years, while further up the street, Ziegfeld Follies performer Ida Adams had purchased 130 East 38th Street.

Once converted back to a single-family home in 1995, classicized window and door surrounds were installed, the facade was covered with pigmented cement stucco, and a new bracketed, pressed-metal cornice was put up. In 1997 the Murray Hill Association gave the house a preservation award.
