The apartment building at 140 Bay Ridge Pkwy in Bay Ridge, Bklyn, used to be "the place" to live. Back when I first moved in, this was the "crme of the crop." A truly live-in super and his family used to clean on a weekly basis (almost every day). The basement, the hallway, the tenants in the apartment, everything was superb. The management company the owner used then was truly and exquisite management company. They took care of everything to make sure the building was in top shape. A few years ago, however, the owner - William Koeppel - took over the every-day care of the building. He fired the union-super and hired his Manhattan-building doorman to do super-during on a "part-time" basis. A part-time super doing a full-time super's job has taken this building from crme of the crop to the gutter. The building is filthy. The elevator is filthy. Repairs are non-existent. The super cleans once a month only if you complain about the building being filthy. If you don't complain, he tries to get away with not cleaning. His fault? One never knows since he does have a full-time job for the same owner at another of his buildings in Manhattan. This building needs a full-time super who cares about the appearance of the building and it needs an owner/landlord who takes pride in the property. The building has potential and the charm of the architecture and the characteristic of the apartments can really make this property comparable to charming buildings in the Upper East Side of Manhattan and Brooklyn Heights. William Koeppel, if you don't care about this building, please sell it to someone who does care. You are interested in getting money every month from the tenants, but you care nothing about the building itself, including its safety. Slumlord, indeed! [less]
