Landlord keeps marking invoices PAST DUE

Prime lease, rent always paid well before due (documented by bank, too), and I can't figure out why the landlord thinks it's grand to keep sending bills with PAST DUE previous months. Been around and around with them. They keep promising they'll send corrected bills, and that they'll make sure it doesn't happen again. It's ludicrous, and now I'm losing my frisky sense of humor. What could they possibly get out of continually doing this? Not rhetorical. Seriously, what are they doing?
