Buffing versus refinishing

Discussion about
Moving to a new place. I'm looking at either doing a refinish or buffing of the floor - oak hardwood. The unit is 6-7 yrs old. There've been two cats living in there. I wonder how many days buffing would take, versus refinish. Also - any contractors you've had good experiences with? Thanks!
