Connecting two units in neighboring co-op buildings

Am I crazy for even thinking this? We own a pre-war co-op and the immediate neighboring unit (in a diff. pre-war building) is now for sale. Is it feasible to connect the two? Architecturally? Legally? Would the resulting 3+ bedroom/2.5 bath be worth more than the sum of its parts? ANY thoughts appreciated...
