We're gut renovating a small (approx 5x7') pre-war bathroom. There will be a Duravit 2nd Floor Vanity Basin in a 24" vanity that is immediately adjacent to the tub (with no wall separating. There is a small window which will give a little light during the day, but the light over or next to the medicine cabinet will be the only one in the bathroom (we're not lowering the ceiling and there is no overhead light. I'm trying to balance the lighting and medicine cabinet. The ceiling is 8" high, but the top 7" is a bump (soffit?). Although I have read that lights on the side of the mirror are preferable to a fixture over the mirror, I think that I would have to have such a narrow mirror/cabinet that putting it above would be preferable. Can anyone suggest the best height for the cabinet and space to allocate for the fixture over the mirror and under the soffit. I'm looking at 2 or 3-light fixtures - very sleek and modern - mid price range. If I put lights at the side how skinny would the mirror have to be. The lights cannot extend past the 24" vanity because there is a wall on one side and a tub on the other. Thank you so much. This is my first post and I hope not too long. [less]
