Commuting from Brooklyn to Long Island (Manhasset)

Looking to move to Brooklyn and seeking advice on neighborhoods. I work in Financial District so want to be close(ish) to a subway, but my girlfriend works in Long Island (Manhasset) and will need to be close to the BQE. Any advice on convenient locations for us both?
