I recently closed on a co-op in Forest Hills and wanted to do some renovations before we move in. I've reach to out to about 8 contractors for an estimate, but they say they are booked for the next few months. My guess is the amount of work I'm asking for isn't worth it to them. Among the things I'm looking to do:
- Installed recessed lighting is some rooms or lighting fixtures in others
- Put in a new door/door frame for a terrace door
- Refinish existing original hard wood flooring
- Paint the entire apartment
- Rip out old closet shelving, and build new ones
- Fix doors that for some reason won't close
- Run coax cable through wall/ceiling from front of apt to living room so I don't have to look at it or trip over an improvised solution
- Install bathroom cabinet in wall
- Replace the artificial grass rug on the terrace
- And other misc stuff.
I'm looking for a recommendation on a licensed and insured general contractor that is able to do these things. I'm a first time owner, and this would be my first renovation, so ideally I'm looking for someone who is easy to work with and can guide me through the process, can take the board alteration agreement and make sure the al the necessary things they ask for are in the contract, and obviously does good work, is respectful of neighbors, and removes all garbage.
If you have a recommendation, that would be great. And if you have a general idea of price range of those renovation activities (less than 10k? More than?) that would also be appreciated.
