There are some luxury apartments in Manhattan that seem to be made for young people. Facilitiesthat include lounges, party rooms, and business and fitness centers create a social environment, and the huge population means there are plenty of people to socialize with. However, the fact that these types of buildings attract young grad students and those early in their careers don’t mean they have the required funds to meet the high rents. Despite this hurdle, the word in the street is that many young people have found a way to afford rent in these luxury buildings without any financial constraint: simply erect a temporal wall and transform a one-bedroom into a two or three-bedroom and share the rent. Most group houses in neighborhoods far off from the city center have long been a much preferred option for renters with limited funds, but there isan increasing number of young people choosing the facilities of luxury buildings that large kitchen and living room that group houses don’t offer. Recently, the management in many buildings in New York does not only accept the pressurized walls, but sometimes propose the idea. These walls don’t only help create space for another person in an apartment; they also provide a means for people to pay les rents, since it is shared. The idea is also good for students who after paying so much for tuition will need to minimize their cost of studies by sharing rents. There are still so many out there who are unaware of this trend, and will readily buy the idea once they realize its benefits. Hiring a contractor to put up a temporary wall may cost you from about $700 to $1500. Before looking for a service, it is important to ask around what it entails to install a temporary wall, and what to find out if the Landlord accepts these walls. Policies differ from building to building; some of them do not allow temporary walls, meaningroommates have to look for ways to create spaces using free-standing walls or heavy drapes. For some tenants, they still prefer staying alone and paying their rents because they see a downside to the pressurized walls. This reservationpoints out what might be the biggest problem to the setting which is a lack of personal space. Drapes, no matter how much space they cover, do not guarantee a lot of privacy. While some business centers may provide a quiet place to study and a place to go and relax, living in an apartment with no doors and few walls will be boring. As earlier mentioned, there are many new apartment projects coming online in the next few years. Seeing how some of these luxury buildings are able to transform and accommodate in to double rooms than had been planned is very interesting. [less]
