Is it legal or okay for a real estate sales person to ask for a holding deposit? The real estate sale person asked me to make a deposit to hold the apartment and to show the landlord that I am serious about renting. This has to be done at the time of me submitting my application for the apartment. He asked me to Venmo the money to him. I am a beginner in the world of renting, so I am not sure if this okay or even legal.
