Discussion about
Does anyone else love these? Although the Depression greatly reduced the number of high rises built, there were still a few dozen of them built in Manhattan between 1936 and 1941 (when construction was halted upon the US's entrance in World War II(). I find them to be of interest due to be relatively unique, but also well thought in terms of both facade and apartment layout. Some examples include 411 West End Ave (1936), 19 E 88th St (1937), The Normandy (1939, and Emery Roth's final home), 20 5th Ave (1940), 240 Central Park South (1940), the John Murray House (1941) and 530 Park Ave (1941).
