How long to see the post-Labor Day listing spree?

It seems the general consensus is that listings should increase after Labor Day. For the uninitiated - does that mean that a slew of apartments will hit the market this week (as in listings were ready to go but brokers put them on hold until this week)? Or, does it mean that sellers will start to contract with brokers and we should see a wave of listings in a couple of weeks from now? Also, is the pattern more of an constant, increased flow of apartments for some period of time or is it more of a deluge that subsides to a lower new listing volume quickly?
