Discussion about The Melar Leasing Office
They do not tell you in advance but 20% of the apartments are occupied by section 8 (low-income housing) tenants. In fact it is more like 40% since there are many vacant full rent apartments. Needless to say that the low-income tenants do not have the same regard for the common space. When you visit, you might want to ask why there has been such a high turnover of tenants.

It's no secret that The Melar is 80/20, and as an 80, I can tell you that the 20s are just fine, normal (low- and moderate-income) residents (and not Section 8, btw). There's not a whole lot of common space in the first place (basically just a lobby, laundry room and gym), and I've never noticed anyone here being particularly disrespectful, regardless of how much they pay in rent. It's really an amazingly run building.

Hard to say whether there really is high turnover, but if that's the case, I'm sure it's because of a period of many months when the rental office wasn't adjusting renewals to the new, lower market rents. At this point, I think the building's pretty full.

Jesus, low income does not = section 8 automatically.
