Discussion about
I am an attorney at large manhattan law firm who dabbles in real estate for personal investment. I have years of professional experience as a well as a big law salary. I am contemplating a career change and becoming a broker. What is the best way to join a brokerage without having to spend years/months as someone's assistant or in some underpaid training program?
try cantor pecorella (www.cantorpecorella.com)... i know there's agents who are also nys licensed attorneys. the company have exclusive contracts to new development sales.
comments 1 and 2 were posted nearly at the same time, possibly suggesting Cantor Pecorella advertising for themselves. besides, only a nutcase would forfeit a "big law salay" (min base $150K in manhattan) to become a RE broker (median income in manhattan - 45K) ??
I can give you the question from the last broker exam though:
1) Can you fog a mirror?
#3--first of all there are plenty of ex-attorney brokers out there. Second of all, if you know what you're doing, you are intelligent, you have a strong work ethic, you will not make 45,000 a year. please.Neither I nor any of the brokers with whom I work make less than a couple hundred thousand a year. And none of us are big name celebrity brokers. Now for the OP--it really depends on what you're looking for with a career change. Sounds like you would be inclined to go the building sale/commercial route. Downtown eastern consolidated and massey knakal pretty much have the lions share of the market sewn up. If you have connections and need a "big name" with a proven track record to help you land accounts you already have an inside track on they have big names. Talk to a few different companies and people who work there. Presumably you have enouh money to keep comfortable while you try and hook some bigger deals. go to www.rebny.com look at all the commercial firms, click on a few sites and see what appeals.
Dear Mr. Number 1 poster,
My English is not the best, please consider:
If you have good social connections and can use the business relation you have to help foster growth for Real Estate career then maybe it will be good for you.
If you know people that make big money that is what counts most, and they trust you so it help more, try the new career because being happy in life is what count most, is it not?
#1---Just send in the application and set up your own shop. NY lawyers dont need to take the exam.
