Discussion about
I'm relocating back to NY in April and am looking for a good rental agent. I hear nightmare stories about agents telling you about a great apart. only to find a hole in the wall. I will need to find an apt. and sign a lease in one week. HELP!!!!!

try "by owner" listings at Craigslist, also try here at Streeteasy, "no fee", even though some of them are not really owners but brokers. Many get 20 to 30 answer per ad, so you have to stand out from the crowd, but beware of online scams do not give any info online. Good luck!

How long have you been away? One week doesn't seem to be much time to make such an important decision, you'll be LIVING there. What are others' experiences, ideas?

i've been gone seven years. That's why i felt renting rather than buying was the only thing i could do right now because of the time crunch. IS ONE WEEK ENOUGH TIME TO FIND A RENTAL APARTMENT????

one week would be enough if you know what you want in terms of area including exact streets you like or not, space, amenities and how much you are willing to pay. signing the lease all happens as soon as you can do it. Most apartments are empty and looking for immediate lease signature. come with references ready from your employer

Completely agree with #2. Go for rental properties first. Try Douglas Elliman and ask to speak to the group that deals in managing buildings/rental manager. They manage a ton of buildings in NYC and they won't charge you a fee.

i disagree. douglas elliman will charge you a broker's fee! call no-fee rental management properties... no broker's fee!

I'm not saying to go through DE as a regualr rental broker...They also act as a property management company and as such, for the properties that they manage, they will not charge a brokers fee.
