Discussion about
I'm returning to New York in May after seven years. Plese give me your thoughts on renting in Roosevelt Island...Is it difficult to get to Manhattan, etc. THANKS FOR THE HELP
I am returning to New York after seven years too, plese, advise on roosevelt island!
If you saw the british tv series The Prisoner, the island will seem familiar
Roosevelt Island is connected to Manhattan via subway and tram. I do not think that pets are allowed on the island (at least not dogs), but I am not quite sure. It is certainly more reasonable than Manhatten, and offers some great skyline vistas. However, it can feel a wee bit remote (#3's post is very funny, btw!).
#3 than you i had a great laugh. who lives on roosevelt island ? what are the demographics?
Thanks #3, i'll know where not to look for an apt.
Is the no pets thing really true??!!!!
It was true until about a year ago, now some of the new buildings allow (small?) dogs. I think that Roosevelt Island is fine for someone who doesn't want/need that kinetic energy you get on the streets of Manhattan, it seems to have more of a bucolic feel to it with a lot of green space. Also, I've always thought that it was nicer to look at Manhattan than from Manhattan. Just put in Roosevelt Island on the sales page of this site & see what you think.
i like broolyn
OK so I admit I am an animal freak, but I cannot imagine an entire community with no pets. I would never have wanted to live there for that reason alone. Pets give a place a happy energy. I can't believe I never was aware of that.
This web page should change its name to "Julia & friends", the rest of us aka "anonimous"
#11...that's funny.
How many of "us"? I have the feeling it is aforemention J. a couple or three of other people and me :-)
First let me dispel the myths about pets. They are indeed allowed. In fact, just like the rest of Manhattan the place is quite dog friendly. Lot's of open space and dog runs. And the best part is that you can even bring dogs onto the tram as long as they are in a crate. And they make collapsible crates these days, so that once you get off the tram you can take the crate with you.
And no that wasn't a typo---Roosevelt Island is actually part of District 5 of Manhattan - believe it or not.
Yeah. The first time I saw an address such as 450 Main Street, New York, NY., I was sure it was a mistake. It turned out to be Roosevelt Island, which by the way, is not like a prison, but is much more like Battery Park City 20 years ago, than like typical NYC hoods across the river.
