Michael Groen, Douglas Elliman - worked with him recently. Fair, and upfront with information. Low pressure sales tactic.

Why shouldn't there be lots of Brokers here at Streeteasy? It is a website that is filled with valuable information that can help their business. A lot of their postings are filled with informative and helpful information. Stop treating them like enemy #1. Most of them are just doing their job and trying to make a living.

Okay, look, when I sold my last place I went FSBO, only because it paid to at least try to save the 6% commission (which came out to be a significant ammount!).

But having said that I have worked with brokers previously, and the three I think are really good were Elaine Clayman and Gregory Roache from BHS, and Mark Kennedy from Elliman. Elaine was best for fancier more expensive uptown stuff, and was very organized and professional when it came to taking me through the co-op board package process the first time. Greg is much younger, and best I think for midtown and uptown properties when you're younger or a first time buyer. Mark Kennedy was really excellent when it came to downtown properties below 23rd street. So they each had their strengths, but I can vouch for as a buyer and say each was honest, trustworthy, professional, hardworking, and a pleasure to deal with.

#6, I agree completely but many of our fellow posters go off into darkest Africa without a guide & drill their own teeth so they're a different bunch. God love 'em.

#9 - Poster #8 here. They became my friends PRECISELY BECAUSE they did a good job and were a pleasure to work with.

I do not like most brokers, but I will be fair and recommend one I had a nice experience with all though I did not wind up buying what she showed me, I found another deal I could not pass up.

Maresa Laino of Corcoran

Very nice and professional

I think the point #3 was making was that this thread is at best an invitation for a broker to toot his own horn while pretending to be a non-broker. Your best bet is to ask people known to you -- friends, co-workers, family, neighbors -- for recommendations with details about WHY the broker is good, and what the circumstances and downsides were.

Of course there are many good brokers out there, who know that a successful business isn't built on treachery, dishonesty and manipulation. Those are the ones who provide helpful advice on streeteasy and identify themselves as brokers. And in today's highly overcrowded field of brokers there are also those desperate individuals who have at best one listing, no or little income, and believe that they have no chance at success via straight-dealing, good listening and hard work. Those are the ones who would waste time lying on streeteasy
