Discussion about
Hi Any good sites to look for info on a building I am looking to buy in? For some reason, this building's address doesnt show up anywhere (wont map on Google, Yahoo, etc either). Seems only the residents and post office know where they are? Consequently, I cant find sales history, etc on it. Thanks in advance.
for sale history look in www.propertyshark.com
#2 thanks... tried that, the address doesnt register for some reason. is there another site or another way to search that is not based on the address?
maybe you're putting in the wrong address.
Feel free to "contact us":http://www.streeteasy.com/nyc/feedback/beta with the address and we'll see if we can help...
does the building even exist (yet)?
yes, the building exists. i've double checked the mailing address (by looking at the owner's mail, while standing in his apt). this is in queens, btw.
it would help if you provided the address of the bulding...is there some reason why you're not providing it?
I can understand why this person wouldn't want to put an address on the web but it does seem very odd that the address does not show anywhere. There is that odd hyphen in the address, ie. 12-33, in Queens, whatever THAT is about. Is that the problem?
something sounds strange....#7, are you the OP? If so, is this place on the market? Why would you verify the building address by looking at the owner's mail? Is it FSBO or is there a broker? Seems it should be easy to verify without having to sneak around...
there are a few buildings in Queens and Manhattan with 2 physical addresses recorded. This happens alot to buildings that are located on the corner of the block. Your best bet would be to verify the address with the building's local post office. They have a full record of which address came first. My building was exactly the same. It was located on 9th avenue. Years later, due to re-zoning and complete building renovations, the address has changed. However, the deed to the building does not reflect the new address nor does the utility companies. However, the post office will recognize both addresses for the same building.
lol... op here... sorry for seeming to be mysterious... i AM purposefully not listing the addy... theres only one apt for sale and i have an accepted offer a fair amount below asking. i am pretty sure the owner is looking for more bids, dont wanna give him any help.
the problem is not verifying the address, its finding info on the building... looking at his mail was just to confirm that the post office at least knows/recognizes what the address is. weird (to me) that google and yahoo do not. i assume dhl, ups and fed ex will find it too.
#9, the hyphen in queens actually makes sense if you know how to read it... 12-33 Main Street means the building is on Main Street, where it intersects 12th St. It is also #33 on the block, between 12th and 13th. course, the problem i have with queens is that numbers skip (35th ave suddenly becomes 37th ave... wth happened to 36?) and going from 66th st to 68th rd might be a 10 block ordeal because its 66st, then 66ave, then 66th road then 67st, 67ave, etc. i'm pretty sure this was because the blocks used to be much longer, so they had to add the ave and roads after the streets had been established. thats just my guess though.
its not as bad as tokyo (where addresses were randomized on purpose in case of invasion), but sometimes it sure seems like the planners were drunk when they did it.
#11, you are correct, its a corner building.
Thanks guys, for your help. I found some info with the help of the streeteasy staff.
