Discussion about 95 Christopher Street in West Village
How do tenants like living in this bldg, is it kept clean and up to date? I'm thinking of renting but not sure if the bldg interior is run down. Thanks

The people I know in the building have been very happy there.
How noisy is the street at night, form low-floor apartments?
Overpriced.

the apartments I have seen in there are nice and renovated the bldg hallways are a little distressed
My team just signed a lease yesterday at 95 Chris. She is very happy and we have put multiple tenants in the building with no problems (at least they have told us there are no problems) and they are happy. They tend to be a little above market value when you look at the comps.
j1w, they are pricey, however, this is one building that I happen to really love. The location, the Deco styling, everything about it has great style and character.
If it were in my budget, I would probably do it. It's a matter of personal taste. I hate a lot of the new construction that gets discussed here, and that lots of people drool over.
they had probably 7-8 vacant one bedrooms in december, as well as some studios. they now have ONE vacant one bedroom. you are only over-priced if people are unwilling to pay for something. that obviously isn't the case here.
I am looking for my uncle, who lives in this appartment at nr 11J !!!!
We miss him a lot and we must talk to him because of some very urgent things here in Holland!

Don't live in this building. It is extremely loud, dirty and overpriced, and BLDG management treats the residents like a nuisance. Anytime your try to get in touch with them they are rude and horrible no matter what the inquiry is about. I highly do NOT recommend this place.
I agree with jmart. BLDG are a terrible management company, they do not answer any enquiries and are extremely rude. This culture must flow down to their employees, who are no better. Rude doormen who do not do their job (open the door, sign for packages). And don't get me started on the super. He walks around like he owns the building! He doesn't do any actual work (I've never seen him lift a finger/tool, except strut around the building as if he was mafia - by the looks of him I wouldnt be surprised), and he still expects a substantial holiday gift (without saying thanks!)
The area also becomes very sketchy after sundown. The community of outsiders who walk up/down Christopher St to congregate at the pier are very intimidating to locals - i've been harassed numerous times, and have made it a point to always take a cab directly to the door.
(I won't even mention the cockroaches/mice problem)
Above all that it is extremely overpriced for what you get. There are definitely better deals around the west vilage!
@mikeyj - please elaborate on the cockroach/mice problem... looking to possible rent a studio in this building.
I agree with anyone above that said NOT to rent in this building. I lived there for a couple of years until I had my fill of mice, roaches, disgusting hallways and RUDE, GREEDY management. The whole place is held together with masking tape and chewing gum (I'm only half joking). The doormen, on the other hand, I loved.
I lived there for 4 years. The woman managing the building is just a terrible person. When you move out she will insist that you left the place such a mess that she will not give you your deposit back. There is nothing you can really do because you can't get back into the apt to prove that she is wrong. Takes pictures before and after. I lived in a tiny studio where the floor was either covered with a Queen size bed, a rug or a couch. She said I ruined the floors and they needed to be replaced. She said that I should have taken my shoes off before entering the apartment! She actually said to me - you are disgusting, I can not believe you live like this! She will argue with you and talk to you like you are garbage. I later found out she does this to everyone who moves out! What a scam.
Beware though, as of the time I left 3 years ago the woman manager of the building hired her young son to be a porter. If he enters your apartment to fix something and sees something that he doesn't like he WILL tell her.
The doormen on the other hand are the nicest people. So great, I actually miss them.
Additionally there is a crazy lady and her mother that lives in a rent controlled apartment, she smells really bad and if she doesn't like you she reports you to the mgmt, she is also so abusive to the doormen. The police have been called many times and know her very well. Of course the manager of the building has nothing to alleviate that situation.
mvdnyc, this is a 3 year old grudge you still have?
