Discussion about
How dare he changes the law that he can get reelected to break the term limit? That's what they do in Latin America. Because of him, the city finance is dead, the job market is dead, and the RE is dead in water. I wish he can be fired soon. Of course he bought everyone off.

so the govt. reads SE? Um, don't you guys have better things to do? The last time I checked, Bloomberg lost control of the school system, no? Isn't that something you should be working on?

Bloomberg is the reason this city hasn't totally fallen apart at the seems. Can you imagine how Dinkins or some other idiot would have dealt with the current set of circumstances.

I don't think it is Bloomberg that we are in the current market condition, but I do think that he is one of the main culprit that contributes to the largest real estate scam in New York City. In addition, he had raised the real estate taxes through the roof, the traffic ticketing through the floor, and spurred the largest real estate building situation in NYC, which caused all the incompentence with the falling with the cranes. Let's not mentioned that he don't think that the term limit should apply to him.

Now the city have higher real estate taxes, the traffic cops are ticketing people like crazy, and all of this burdens the citizens of New York City. If people cannot see these issues and other underlining issues that he solely caused, then it will be a sad day if he ever get elected for a 3rd term.

STOP BLOOMBERG NOW! PREVENT A 3RD TERM! ANYONE IS BETTE THAN HIM!

God bless America!

He has raised taxes multiple times, incresed spending considerably, and given away the store to the unions. The smoking ban was a great move for everyone, but what has he done in his second term that is so great?

Bloomberg actualy understands that you need to show some fiscal restraint. He started putting aside funds as we were heading into this recession. Unfortunately, NYC is not given enough autonomy to run its own government/budget. The idiots in Albany have way too much latitude to interfere.

Also, blaming bloomberg for the entire financial crisis is ridiculous. How about the unions who insist on ridiculous pay and benfefits? How about individuals who did not take responsibility for themselves?

The typical construction worker makes $52K/year. Ridiculous!

His union contract allows for three 15-minute breaks from his literally back-breaking hard physical labor throughout his work day. Ridiculous!

He gets an hour off for lunch. Ridiculous!

And just a few months ago, his union (along with dozens of other construction labor unions) agreed with developers to actually SLASH labor costs by expanding his workday. Ridiculous!

The men who literally bust their asses erecting buildings that will keep all of us safe and secure shouldn't be paid any more than the yutzes who serve coffee at Starbucks!

It's all just so ... RIDICULOUS!

Did Bloomberg show fiscal restraint when he used taxpayer money to subsidize 2 sports stadiums and almost used taxpayer money to subsidize a third one (Jets Stadium)?

That said, New Yorkers went to the ballot FOR term limits twice. It is not comforting that the excuse of convenience was used to overturn a ballot box issue using the city council as the venue. Regardless of whether you believe Mike Bloomberg the most qualified for Mayor, the issue of term limits cannot be turned on and off because you happen to like the incumbent.

Eh - Bloomberg grew our budge by over 50% in 8 years - what are you talking about.

We've just finished the biggest boom in tax revenue collection in the city's history and we don't have a rainy day fund. Instead we've got this huge out of control government who has signed absurd union labor deals (including one that pays $65M/year to pay teachers to sit in rubber rooms) grown entitlement programs and taken on even more debt when they should have instead been paying it back.

Sure Bloomberg knows a lot about money, but he certainly hasn't learned to say "NO" to special interest groups when it comes to spending our tax dollars. Does it make sense that illegal immigrants get free medical care here? Does it make sense that our Medicaid bills is more than 2x bigger (on a per resident basis) than any other state. It's a total myth that Bloomberg is some kind of spendthrift.

Or when he gave Goldman Sachs over $100million dollars to stay in NYC. He did this right after GS finished the tower in Jersey City and when they told the traders to move over there the traders said NO WAY. The traders said they would find new jobs and that they weren't leaving Manhattan. So everyone and I mean EVERYONE knew Goldman had no chance of leaving the city as it was clear their employees wouldn't leave - yet Bloomberg gave huge dollars to stay, plus they got $1.6M of liberty bond financing. Disgusting

PS - the Federal Gov is borrowing 50% of their budget this year. Again, 50 cents of every dollar the Federal Government is spending this year is borrowed money. It is so wrongheaded.

Also, Bloomberg doesn't have legistlative authority to determine medicaid spending. You can blame the wonderful leadership in Albany for those bloated costs.

My point is pointing the finger soley at Bloomberg does not make sense. There are plenty of special interest groups and other officials that have done a lot more damage.

Construction workers who work hard do deserve a fair wage and reasonable working conditions. However, I do not believe in automatic pay raises, exemtions from state taxes on pension benefits, and gold plated healthcare plans for specific union groups while many other hard working NYrs are expected to pay more and more to support them.

On a matter of principal, I won't vote for him because of the BS way he got term limits changed. Wouldn't vote for any city council member who voted for it either.

I was talking about this issue with some friends over brunch today (his re-election). one of the things we agreed on was that even though it's technically a State issue, his allowing the WTC project to go through his entire 2 terms with just about NOTHING happening is a disgrace. He was off chasing new stadiums (which, generally speaking, were fairly unnecessary) and failing on just about every nig project he tried to get thru (Olympics, bridge tolls, etc.).

plus his arrogance level has gone over the acceptable limits. He treats reporters like he owns NY and they shouldn't question how he chooses to run "his business".
