Discussion about
Hi, we are doing some renovations in our apartment are trying to locate places where Trade professionals (i.e., contractors, carpenters, plumbers) themselves shop for materials. Home Depot offers good savings but does not offer us as much variety as we need. I'm sure there are places where the Pros go to for greater $ savings as well as access to greater variety of materials. We are looking for suppliers / wholesalers in the following areas that wouldn't mind doing business with individuals: 1) Plumbing (looking for Toilets, faucets, Sinks) 2) Electrical (dimmer switches, ceiling fans, sconces, 3) Drywall (self explanatory) 4) Doors rogh frames, hinges, locks etc Ideas / suggestions?

Use the internet and buy from out-of-state suppliers to save on tax. I have had good success buying sinks, faucets, etc. through homeclick.com and homecenter.com. They will often waive the shipping charge for orders over a certain dollar amount. You just need to know exactly what you want because you can't just take it back to the store in a cab if it's not the right fit.

Lendy Electric on Grand St in Chinatown.

Eigen Plumbing Supply on West 17th and New York Replacement Parts on Lex and ?94th?

Also, print yourself up some letterhead and pose as a contractor and just about anyplace will give you 20% to 30% off as contractor pricing (but try to look the part when you walk in). Or if "interior designer" fits you better.....

You didn't ask for tile but I love my boys at Bella Tile -- ever since I found them when I was doing a bathroom renovation and Home Depot didn't know what a saddle was.

Nemo's got good tile prices too, especially on your basic white.
