Discussion about
By all accounts, the market is tight and brokers and management companies need the business. So it amazes me to no end to find that 4 out of 5 times, I don't get a call back to my queries. I leave a friendly message, tell them I'm responding to X advertisement, and need a place within the next three weeks and am interested in learning more. I give my name and number twice. Nothing. What gives? Are you guys swamped with calls? Is it possible that all apartments are taken and you couldn't possibly return everyone who called you about a place that's no longer available? I'd love to know. Honestly.
"I don't get a call back to my queries"
be patient, they are either fishing or hunting. those guys also have to eat.
What are you looking for? I posted here just twice and found a lovely person willing to make an offer and we like them too! The only thing I ever asked. I think perhaps some brokers are a bit tired like some owners are..door kickers and the like. Since we just rented in Miami..while renting our owned condo in Miami (no easy task right now either; but, more kids so needed more space) just by being fair...my honest opinion would be to just keep trying. I've gotten some great input from this forum..and a few insults too..but hey that happens. Just keep your chin up (pretend you're Pollyanna for a bit), and something great will come your way. It's a buyers market (or renters)..we're both right now...all will work out. Just make sure to let the bad stuff roll off your back b/c there's enough depressing news around to last. Time to take in the good..ignore the bad..and be confident you'll get what you want..even if you have to call back a lot :) Good luck to you!!! By the way, down here in Miami we walked away from four properties check in hand knowing some smart cookie would take it..it all worked out. Hang in there!!!
Its been my experience so far that 85% of the RE people Ive dealt with have been fairly incompetent. I guess that what happens in a business that has almost no barriers to entry
Another bullshit post. Give me a break. Your righteousness and feigned surprise and nastiness lead me to believe that you are an experienced embittered New Yorker.
You are on streeteasy (i.e. educated) and know the market is tight, but then you only figured out you need a place to rent three weeks ahead of time (i.e. dumbass). You use streeteasy (i.e. online) and then don't follow up a phone call (offline) with an email to every broker who carries a blackberry?
Thanks for the feedback. Even from bottee. You are mistaken, though, about my motives, I actually have been calling, leaving messages and emailing — I don't expect Street Easy to do the work. I make the calls, do the homework and the footwork. Plus, many brokers don't want to talk to you if you aren't ready to jump right away. Two months is a lifetime in real estate, right? Certainly, there's no need for infantile name calling, bottee. Long-time New Yorker? Yes, I am. Embittered? Perhaps you are, bottee, but there's no need to spread it around. Leslie et al, thanks for the advice and words of encouragement.
If you know the area where you want to live, perhaps you can go to a few of the buildings that look appealing & talk to someone there. Good luck. Your experience is baffling.
