Discussion about
I am doing a minor renovation and the most intricate part is that I want to install recessed lights and new dimmer switches in the apartment. Is this something I need a permit for?

If you are using existing J Boxes and not changing the main power box, you can probably avoid

How can recessed lights be installed (rather than changed) by using existing junction boxes? Don't they (by their very nature) have junction boxes here and here and here and here and here and here?

I'm all for do it yourself but I'm always so cautious when it comes to electricity. You can not only electrocute yourself but also burn the place down. PLEASE be real sure you know what you're doing or call in a pro.

Wouldn't you need to drop the ceiling?

You do not need to file for the work you described. It's smart to use a licensed electrician, for the obvious reasons, but also because a licensed electrician is required to notify you if the work requires filing/permits.

...I should add that you didn't say whether you are going to significantly change the load on the existing circuit, but I'm assuming you are not.

The other option of course is to ask the building management. Obviously, you've decided to skip that step an blog your request on this board.

i have not decided skip any step, i am trying to find out what the procedure is. One of the purposes of this board is to allow users to benefit from the experience of others. Obviously you have all the answers and don't feel like sharing them. Thanks

Please, Curioso, don't get upset. It seems people didn't understand your original premise & what info you needed. Prior to this logon, people would have been calling you all kinds of idiots & cussin' at you, too. There's lots of good info here so just be patient.
