Discussion about
Hello all, I've begun "renovating" my apartment. After receiving several quotes, I've decided to just do the bulk of the work myself. However, the bags of crap (sheetrock, flooring, etc) have begun to spread throughout my living room. What is the standard procedure for getting rid of this in a co-op? There is a 'garbage' room on each floor, with a small shoot for trash, much smaller than a large garbage bag. Can I just leave a large back of trash in said room every so often? Thanks.

Just take it to Long Island City. Crap will feel right at home there.

Great ideas guys. Way to keep your moronic forum drama to a minimum, so as to maximize the amount of useful information here.

NOT.

Check with your building's super and mgmt office. Different buildings have different policies. If you wind up with a lot of junk, you may need to hire an outside party to cart it away.

Also remember that in a co-op all renovations require approval. If you're doing things like removing and replacing sheetrock and flooring, you will need to contact your board before beginning.

in my building, we bring it down to the compactor room, preferably on garbage day and give a few bucks to the porter.

I would call a rubbish removal company. They should be willing to take it from your apartment and get rid of it for you. Sort everything into 3' segments and bundle like items together. I'm guessing the landfill will require drywall to be separated from wood and/or other debris so make sure to ask before they come. I think the city will take the odd bit of reno debris but may balk at anything beyond a little do it yourself weekend project.

I'm curious too so report back...

thanks, falcogold1. It was meant as a joke.

But as for Juicy: "or you could take it to where steve gets his data, the home of craploads of crap"

I publish where I get my data from. The problem is, no data support what Juicy believes, he's been wrong about every real estate prediction he's ever made. So instead of engaging in a real debate, he just claims victory and and claims victory and claims victory.

Regarding this thread, depending on the amount of debris the co-op might require a mini-dumpster. Check with the super, who usually has the connections.
