I'm not terribly internet-savvy or patient for that matter, so after a cursory (and lame) search, I have still not found a database like ACRIS for properties outside the NYC area (i.e., the Hamptons or other parts of NY state), but I find it hard to believe that something like this does not exist. So, of course, I turn to the source of all knowledge--my fellow Streeteasy addicts . . .
I don't think there is anything like acris out there for other places......yet.
Like everything, services and features for information start with highest volume locations and it takes some time before it includes everything and everywhere.
Think of Sprint when it first built it's network in the 90's, you didn't have cell service everywhere.
Your best bet will be with propertyshark for the Hamptons. It's not great, not terrible.

princetonbabe, ACRIS is maintained by NYC government. Other online-access-to-public-records sites are maintained by various levels of government. E.g., in NYS it's usually by counties and in CT by towns. Florida has very broad public-access regulations, so indices for all counties and docs for many counties are at myflorida.com. Some counties maintain their own sites as well.
What for-profit sites like Propertyshark do is pull data from government sites to which they can get access.
To dig on your own, google the county, find the county government website, then find the Assessor's, County Clerk's, or Online Services page.
Last time I checked, Suffolk County was behind-hand in online access, so SE or Propertyshark is the way to go.

Many, many thanks for the quick responses! Once again, Streeteasy posters come to the rescue. I will check propertyshark.
most muncipal and county govts. do not maintain a databse that is comprehansive as ACRIS. In fact, many are stuck in the stone age and either don't have a website or have one that is very primitive.
StreetEasy has recorded sales for the areas where they have listings. Currently, NYC, Hamptons/East End and Northern New Jersey.
If you are looking nationwide, your best bet is probably Zillow.com.
Zillow sucks because they only list the last recorded sale. So you can't see prior sales. And if you use Zillow, don't get distracted by the Zestimates as they are not worth the megabites they take up.
You compiling your own housing data?
"most muncipal and county govts. do not maintain a databse that is comprehansive as ACRIS."
This is not true: almost every one does, because they HAVE TO. It may not be publicly available on the internet, or in some cases even in digital form, but the database is still there.
Some counties have searchable online databases, but in my experience sites compares to NYC's ACRIS. Sometimes I wonder if it is even appropriate for ACRIS to make it so easy to find what an individual owns, whether they are current with their property taxes, their property tax bill amounts, their billing address, the details of their mortgages, and any other liens--all so readily online for the whole world to discover. Keep in mind that knowing what house or apartment a person owns in NYC, it is fairly easy to get data on comparable sales or offerings on websites like StreetEasy or Zillow or PropetyShark.
CORRECTION "Some counties have searchable online databases, but in my experience NO sites compare to NYC's ACRIS"
