Discussion about
has anyone had experience with poliform closet systems? are there close (aesthetic and quality) alternatives out there that are available to the public (ie not using a designer)
Molteni & C systems are very similar to Poliform. Don't know if they will sell direct, but suspect they will. There are expensive.
Go to easyclosets.com. Or buy from home depot.
If he is willing to pay for poliform and likes the look - HD and easyclosets ain't a match!
What is there to like about the look of a closet interior? That's like caring that the inside of your dishwasher is stainless steel. Somebody's been suckered by marketers.
Use California Closets. They're expensive, yes, but they do not compare to the crap you get at home depot plus they send a designer to your home to work with you on a personal level. personally, i'd go with them or not do the closets at all, particularly if you are going to affix shelving to the closets and you own the apartment. when I sold my apartment, the closets were a huge selling point. they looked really great. of course you'll spend $2000 per closet (for a small closet) at least.
Well #5, with the cost of Manhattan real estate, I think the closets are important not to mention how much easier they are to live with & how much more you can get into the few closets in said apartments. I remember being scandalized in Los Angeles seeing multi-million dollar homes with nary a rod in the closet, just a bare box. As far as California Closets goes, it seems to me I heard that the owner has to do any finishing in the space such as painting either before or after; they just install their expensive product.
#7--I paid their guy to paint the closets before hand. As I stated, they personalize your closets -- I must have spent 3-4 hours with the designer going over exactly what I wanted. She never pushed the expensive woods on me. Very professional. Their guys did screw up the installation but after advising the franchise location, they re-did it and it was great. After installation there was no need to finish the walls as the closets looked spectacular. Tie valets, belt racks, shoe racks, nickel plated poles (and I went toward the low end). I truly miss those closets and when I buy again will go with them. Expensive? Yes, but so is an 1.1 MM 1 BR which comes with bare closets. Welcome to the real world.
California closets are a good option. Poliform and Molteni are also. It's quite funny that somebody would judge you for how much money you spend on your closets, especially given the value of real estate, and the usually limited closet space in NYC apts.
#6: thanks. i will look into california closets.
#5: i have definitely been suckered by poliform's massive ad campaign on the BQE and the back of the NY Post. there is obviously no other way that i would have asked about poliform by name, other than mass marketing. there is no way that the words 'poliform' or 'custom italian closet system' will EVER give me a leg up when i decide to sell. i am a sucker and a loser. i defer to you and your wisdom always.
best regards,
martin
Oh My Gosh, go to Container Store and choose Elfa with wire racks and wood shelf trim.
They install for you very reasonably.
The plan is computer generated and perfect.
I have CC in my apt and my son has Elfa--his is so much more beautiful and modern.
How does Elfa closet system (from Container Store) compare with other non-designer systems? In terms of quality and costs, should I go for it or something else? thanks for any feedback
Martin you're definitely not a loser, maybe a sucker...Elfa really does have a great closet system.
