is there any way to find out more about this building? - previous sales for free and any complaints or problems, before buying into it?

Your real estate lawyer will be able to check out if there are lawsuits, etc. against the bldg.

Anyone know why/when the fireplaces were converted to gas? I vaguely remember being at a party in this building years ago and they were
wood burning . Can they be converted back, or was this a coop edict? Thx

There is a ban on new wood burning fireplaces, which I assume covers any attempt to reconvert back to wood, whether or not the coop would allow it (which, in this coop, is highly unlikely).

The building description for 1060 Park lists wood burning fireplaces as a feature: perhaps that description is outdated. I've been told that some WBFPs have been "grandfathered," but that seems unlikely to me.

The ban is on new construction (either the building or adding a WBF in). I would think converting one back would be allowed. But given that it appears that all the FPs in bldg are gas, I doubt the bldg would allow. just curious why they did it, if anybody with experience in this bldg knows. I know that sometimes bldgs need to use the chimneys to run wires and pipes, because it's an easy and inexpensive way to get from bottom to top.
