Hi, does anyone have any ideas of how to use an Airconditioner to cool two rooms? We live in an apartment building and have two adjoining bedrooms but only one of them (BR1) has an wall sleeve with a 8000 BTU Ac cooling the room. Hi, does anyone have any ideas of how to use an Airconditioner to cool two rooms? We live in an apartment building and have two adjoining bedrooms but only one of them (BR1) has an wall sleeve with a 8000 BTU Ac cooling the room. The other room (BR2) has a window but no wall sleeve. We dont want to put a window AC in BR2 because it blocks the light. We looked at external 'split' ACs with two blower units but the wall sleeve in BR1 is not big enough to house the external compressor unit (and we aren't allowed to put that unit outside the building - it has to fit in the sleeve). We came across the following 'duct' kit and were thinking of using it to connect to the second room (and upgrading the AC to 15K BTU). Does anyone have any experience with anything like this or any other ideas? http://www.customerservice.carrier.com/details/1,,CLI1_DIV19_ETI838,00.html [less]
You could also try through the wall vents (http://www.positive-energy.com/ventilation/room_venting.html).
Looks like a big mess, and the AC unit can be only 36" from the wall.
We have the same problem, but there's a connecting bath so when it's really bad I can set up a fan to blow from one BR to the other.
A fan was my idea, as well; have you tried that? A friend always talks about putting a bowl of ice cubes between yourself & a fan - you'll get COLD.
portable AC only needs a small exhaust slip at the bottom of the window.
There are also water cooled portable units that do not require an exhaust. For example: http://www.koldwave.com/html/kompac.asp
Hi, I started this thread over 4 years ago but wanted to come back and 'close' it out in case someone else had a similar issue.
We went with JRD's solution and used 2 room-to-room interior wall fans as shown on this site: http://www.positive-energy.com/ventilation/room_venting.html.
We installed 2 fans. One was set up high towards the ceiling and positioned to blow hot air (hot air rises!) from BR2 to BR1 (BR1 has the AC). The other was placed in the same vertical line but closer to the floor and blew air the opposite way i.e., blows cold air from BR1 to BR2. The two fans are needed to ‘equalize’ the air pressure and force circulation between the two rooms.
We also upgraded the AC to a 10,000 BTU unit as it now has to work harder.
Simple physics but it actually works!
neat thanks.
