Discussion about
My wife and I have been looking to purchase a new condo in the Midtown East in the 50's between 1st and 3rd Avenue. We work at the UN and are looking at 2 bed homes in the $1,000-$1,150 range. Any ideas?
Unfortunately that specific area is and has always been coop heaven.
Sales in Beekman
We found 8 listings for between $900,000.00 and $1,250,000.00 with at least 2 bedrooms
Median price: $1,100,000 Median size: 1,421 ft² Median price per ft²: $762
These are all coops.
If you feel strongly about a condo, a little further south(midtown east/turtle bay/kips bay) will net you a lot of available inventory.
Use streeteasy advance search for what your looking for.
Although I don't know the availability, I know two very good condo conversions in that immediate area in that price range or lower:
* 865 UN Plaza
* 212 East 47th
Also, it's a bit out of the way, but 211 East 51st St is also pretty nice, if you can get them to compromise on the price.
Here are some listings for your consideration-

Appreciate the responses. We are taking a break from searching this labor day weekend and will resume on Tuesday. 865 UN doesnt compare to the quality of 212. The issue we have with 212 is the block which is not that nice.
Back to the search we go.. Thank you drdrd for the listings. We are trying to stay away from kips bay area as its nice but we have alot of friends living in the sutton place turtle bay area of the east 50s. 212 is negotiating and some of our friends who bought at 211 said that they are negotiating so well see. Any insight into the developers would be helpful. We saw a sign by 211 saying the developer of 211 was the developer of 3 othe projects any help is appreciated..... later.
