Any advice on finding a short-term rental for 4-5 weeks during apt renovation?

Discussion about
I've been frustrated in my search for a place to live while our apartment is renovated. Craigslist seems to be full of weird stuff, and I'd love to avoid going through a broker and paying through the nose for the privilege. We're 2 adults, 2 cats, and we'd like to be in Manhattan, and can pay up to about $5000. Have any of you had any success with finding short-term housing? THANK YOU!

There are short term rentals in midtown marketed to executives but where & what they are, I don't know; I think with the "executive" label they're rather expensive.

or a sublet. Water somebody's cat & feed their plants & enjoy your stay - maybe YOU want to post on Craigslist.

They're probably thinking of a bit longer than 6 weeks but it is a smaller agency; maybe they have something. Good luck.

There's Sublet.com. don't have any experience with them, but they seem legit.

How about a vacation rental web site, like homeaway.com (for a random example, see: http://www.homeaway.com/vacation-rental/p430162?uni_id=1031291)? I've successfully rented vacation apartments from that website, and the asking prices have been negotiable. Maybe you'll get a discounted price for a long-term stay (by vacation rental standards).

a friend stayed at the w union square with her dog - why not call the manager and see if you can work out a deal?

There are some craigslist ads looking for amorous couples for stay-overs. That would be a good deal.

A few years ago we had to vacate our apartment for a few weeks due to a water leak and subsequent repair. We stayed at the Buckingham Hotel on West 57th and 6th Ave. Every room has at least a kitchenette; ours was a one bedroom apartment with a full kitchen and dining room. We worked out an excellent rate for our long stay and both the apartment and hotel/staff/facilities were a great solution. There's also the Philips Club near Lincoln Center but it's much more pricey. Good luck!

Why doesn't STREEEASY HAVE A KEYWORD SEARCH WITH "FURNSHED" The broker would certainly say how long a erm in the body of the description

Good morning everyone--thank you for all the great advice! This will definitely jumpstart my search. The possibilities are giving me a little bit of wanderlust (the W at Union Square! Central America!) ILUVNY, I don't have an email address I can post here, but I can go out and get one. I really appreciate all the input.
