We went to an open house 3 weeks ago and we fell in love with a 3 bedroom apartment. The view is amazing, like many other new building. We are really concerned by the area and amenities (we did not have the chance to see anything).
Probably I am old fashioned, but I'm not so happy of paying more than one million dollar and live on the top of a shopping mall

We also went through an open house. We looked at 2 bedrooms and 2 bath units - liked the units but not the views. For these units they seem to have views of Brooklyn with no water or skyline. We also thought they were too pricey for the location. so we've decided to pass.

Have you looked at other high-end spaces in Brooklyn? You'll pay the same $ per square foot, and not get all the amenities that One Hanson has. Yeah, the area immediately around the building is commercial, but it is also convenient to stores and transportation, so I guess that is the trade-off. You also get solid pre-war construction which is great, but smaller windows than the new places, so again tradeoffs. I do think that the building's uniqueness will help keep the property values up when all the other more cookie cutter places are struggling...

A very convenient neighborhood, but not much of a neighborhood.

If you want new construction with such views in Brooklyn, you're probably looking at 1BBP, DUMBO, or Williamsburg otherwise. 1BBP is, to me, an even worse neighborhood. Just nothing right there. DUMBO is pretty manhattan-convenient and has a small but specific neighborhood (thats actually gotten very busy lately), then there is Williamsburg, though much of the "view" buildings aren't near the more neighbodhood central areas. All in, I'd probably go with DUMBO here, maybe check out jcondo. Not prewar, but some great views right on a subway, with actual streets you might want to spend time on.
