Gotta Love CC. Worth every penny..Tex too. This team has the potential to be as good as the late 90s group. What people keep forgetting when they focus on how much the Yankees spend on free agents is that the team has been and continues to be anchored by sure bet first ball Hall of Fame players who are 100% home grown!!!

Go Yankees!!! Does little Juice have his fist uni on?

They're looking pretty damn good. Although the Angels did make a lot of errors last night...

I haven't been watching but a friend in Los Angeles just said that the locals are hoping for a Freeway World Series - the Dodgers vs. the Angels.

lizyank, I think the homegrown thing is a thing of the past. Jeter, Posada, Cano, Riviera, that's it. 3 of those guys are pretty old, and despite looking good this year, will have to face the music at some point in the near future. I still don't know how anyone can root for A-Rod, but then again, I root for the enemy.

"Does little Juice have his fist uni on?"

This could sound pretty bad out of context :)

Typo. It was supposed to be "first uni" as in YANKEE uni, a sacred rite for any New York baby and one which I hope JuiceMan has blessed his child with. And I'll take Jeter and Rivera happily for the next five years barring injury. After that hopefully there are some jewels in the system to take their place.

bjw, re: homegrown among the key players, add Pettitte to your list, although granted that he also goes on the "pretty old" list. Then there is much of the supporting cast - Melky, Gardner, Hughes, Joba, Coke, Robertson. All homegrown. I'm a Red Sox fan, but I can also give credit where due, and the Yankees have a strong organization. Having a bottomless bank account to buy free agents doesn't hurt either.

sidelinesitter, I know there's more homegrown talent - they're just not looking like they'll ever be the "core" to me. Of those you mentioned, none strikes me as a potential long-term star talent. The hype was there for Hughes and Joba, but they haven't really impressed to date (Hughes as an 8th inning guy has been good, but needless to say, that is not what was envisioned by all those breathless scouting reports). Good to see another Sox fan on here though!

Hughes has actually worked out better than Joba to this point. A strong set up to Mariano has been important to the Yankees all along (Remember Stanton?) and Mo himself set up Wettland his first year with the team. I see Melky as another Posada, a solid long time starter, maybe an all star but not a candidate for Cooperstown. There may not be another Jeter in the pipeline this year but at least the scouting has gotten over its Brien Taylor phase--pinning high hopes and $$$ on a guy who blows a golden pitching arm in a fight.

Yes, and hypocrisy has always been the hallmark of sox fans. bjw fits in perfectly.

Hypocrisy how? Red Sox teams of the past definitely worked the free agency game as much as the Yankees, but that's clearly changed in the past few years. On a different note, nyc, are you done sniffing my shorts? It's creepy how you need to respond with a barb after every post I make. I hope you're not feeling too lonely.

So, you can't even explain your jackass comment? What a surprise...
And yes, YOU totally are sniffing. You might be laughing and rolling on the floor at the same time, but you're definitely sniffing. Hope it's fun!
