cool plots - interesting that the midwest has the lowest unemployment. i'm sure there's an obvious reason for it but I can't think of what it is.

Mmmq it's called lower population density. 100 ppl towns, 50 jobs at walmart, 49 farmers. 1% unemployment. Anyone with looks heads west to be a porn star, anyone with half a brain heads to either coast for the bright lights and tall bldgs. ; )

Once again w67 has no clue what he is talking about. Population density has nothing to do with unemplloyment. Look at Michigan. They are in the midwest and have 15% unemployment.

W67,so you didn't think you'd have a future as a porn star?
How could a town with 100ppl employ 50 ppl at walmart? That doesn't really make sense at all. I'm trying for it to make sense but it just doesn't .

the area has low population and more importantly little population growth. it doesn't have an influx of population to add to the labor force monthly like other areas. its employment has not been based in construction, real estate and autos.
it has had extremely high labor participation rates, relatively. which could have numerous ramifications, both positive and negative, depending. but i haven't researched the effects of that.

MM: the labor & consumer market for Walmart would not be just the town, but all the little towns within 1 hour drive.

Real reason for the low numbers in the middle of the country...
you need to have had a job before to be getting unemployment...
