Discussion about
In a few months, GF & I are looking to move from Brooklyn Heights to Queens in order to make her life easier for a masters program she will be starting at Queens College. I work right off Bryant Park, so access to a subway that goes to Grand Central/Bryant Park/Times Square is necessary. Does anyone have recommendations for a safe neighborhood with good amenities (gym, natural\organic markets, good restaurants) between Midtown and QC where $1300-1500 can get us a decent 1-bedroom? We're young, but don't need a bar-scene, prefer to be near a dog-friendly park. We've been paying $2K a month but would love to cut back our expenses a bit and hope less money may go further if we're out in the middle of Queens. Any thoughts?

$1300-$1500 is probably low for LIC. If you are really looking at the middle of Queens don't mind a little longer commute on the V train, check Forest Hills.
Astoria... you can take the N/R line right to Queensborough Plaza, then take the 7 on the same platform right to 5th ave which lets you out RIGHT at bryant park. I do this everyday as I also work right there. You also have Astoria park which has a huge dog area right there and is probably one of the nicest parks in all of Queens. You can easily find a great 1 bedroom for 1300-1500, and the area is very fun for young people.

Thanks Levels, but how convenient would Astoria be to Queens College?
Check other posts on this topic.
Not bad at all by car, probably 15 minute drive.
To get to Queens college by train from Astoria you would have to take the N/W to the 7 then hop on the Q44 bus. I used to go to high school right behind queens college. It'll be a trek. You could try Flushing if you want a quicker commute but won't have the amentities Astoria offers.

fishermb--I used to teach at Queens College and at that time, I lived in Forest Hills--a bus ride to QC or a very quick car or cab ride. Forest Hills also has easy access to the city. It was a great neighborhood when I lived there and from what I understand, it is still very nice.
