Discussion about
I was in contract for a coop, but after reading some comments here I decided to pull out of it. Today my lawyer got my deposit, and I am signing a lease for a new place next week. Monthly cost of renting is 1.5k cheaper then owning. The cost of this adventure is $400 to my bank for cancellation of my mortgage, and a present to my lawyer since he doesn't want to take any fee. I got out using my mortgage contingency, coops are really hard to work with. They never bothered even to answer my bank for about 1.5 months. Happy holiday and thanks for some advices.

I don't think darkbird said he paid a broker. Seems to me there are plenty of no-fee apartments available that no one needs to pay a broker.

darkbird - Glad SE helped you steer clear of making a mistake. Maybe you can return the favor by posting the link to the apartment so that others can be made aware of this difficult coop board.

congrats, darkbird. IMO, stay liquid until we see where prices are really going; maybe that'll be in 2011-12.

Darkbird. Here is some more excellent se advice. When your boss asks you what your bonus should be, say well it doesn't matter bc I give 100% of it to Scientology.

"a present to my lawyer since he doesn't want to take any fee" = uh huh - such behavior is grounds for immediate disbarment. Hey, this is real amateurish shillness.

Wise man always listens to an opinion. Being stubborn won't bring you anywhere. Of course I did my own research on rent vs buy in the current real estate and stock market, and I came to my own conclusions. The rental market went south in the last 3 months, I wrote a quick screen scrapper program to parse out results of this website and show me the trend.

@spinnaker1 get outside and breath some air, refreshing the same page for 2 hours is retarded. I am not a broker, I am in IT. Owned?

I once new a screen scrapper. He went around rural towns dismantling their drive in movie screens.

Yes, some of these prices are still ridiculous- makes no sense to buy, even with the tax benefit.
